Storybook Weaver is a program by The Learning Company. It is used by children to help them with their writing skills, as well as to encourage their creativity. With this program children actually get to write their own stories! They start with a title page and continue to create the story and then the ending. The student can change the font, use a spell checker, and a thesaurus. Students also have the ability to add their own narration and/or music, and sound clips. The student can also illustrate the story using the picture stamps included with the software. They can edit these stamps any way they want. One reviewer on amazon.com stated that when she wanted to make bubbles in the bath tub on she used the clouds as bubbles. She also said you could use the moon stamp and just change the color of the moon to make a ball. So being creative with the stamps is easy! The program is also bilingual and can be used in Spanish or English. The program will even read the story out loud in Spanish or English. When students are done with their story they can save it and show others later, or they may print it out. The program contains 1800 images, 140 scenery options, 37 colors, 69 page borders, 99 sound effects, and 60 songs.
This program obviously has many advantages. It is cross-curricular and can be used with any subject matter in school. This is an older piece of software and so it will not work with Windows Vista, and will only work on Windows XP 16-bit, according to Amazon.com reviewers.
This program would be best for elementary students. I feel all elementary students would enjoy the Storybook Weaver. It is entertaining and allows anyone to be as creative as they would like to be.

Buyer feedback is helpful in finding out all the glitches a program may have. Also if you just go to Google and search for Storybook Weaver you get a lot of websites that give product information and buyer feedback as well.
I feel this tool would be fun, and could even be used as a center at center time in school. Although I feel it would be the center students would fight over!
