Safari Montage is a visual learning product that is purchased in most school systems. It can be used for distance learning, video on demand, multimedia presentations, and video cirriculum. SAFARI's instruction promotes learning, achievement, and teaching that relates to state standards related cirriculum for assessment.
This tool can be used in any form of technology such as Smartboards, Prometheom Boards, Destiny Library Manager, and Televisions. It can be used as an entire class video or can be done on the computer using media player. The advantages to using SAFARI is that it is built for the cirriculum that you need it to, and there are videos for every standard. SAFARI also uses videos that are from other learning channels and movies such as National Geographic, PBS, ABC News, and Arthur. The disadvantages is that SAFARI is not a free program, and because it is a program that is managed over the internet you do not always have access to it. It is not an actual video, so there are times you may plan a lesson and you may not be able to use it.
The audience for this tool is all age groups, they have designated movies for K-12 and all subject content areas too. You can learn more about this tool from their website which is http://www.safarimontage.com/Default.aspx or frm this journal about it http://thejournal.com/articles/2009/06/18/safari-montage-4.0-expands-support-for-file-formats-whiteboards.aspx
My opinion is that this a very useful tool that is already used in many classrooms, and they are constantly trying to improve the use of SAFARI. I really think these videos are wonderful because it is useful in all subject areas, and you can choose videos to match standards and content that you are trying meet. I also think that you should solely depend on these to center a lesson around them, because after talking with several teachers there are often times it is not accessible. I would recommend this to any future or current teacher that has not used it.
