Hino, M., Kimura, T., & McMurray, M. (2007). Vampire knight. San Francisco, CA: Viz Media.
Just when love could never get any more complicated, let's throw in vampires, ancient feuds, magic, and tragedy. Yuki Cross, the daughter of Headmaster Cross and class prefect, watches over the "Day class" at Cross Academy. As part of an experiment, Cross Academy serves as the testing grounds to prove to the world that vampires and humans can coexist. Known as the "Night Class," led by Kaname Kuran, the vampire leader, is an exclusive group of vampires who live off blood pills to prove they do not need human blood. Although this group is not thrilled with this decision, they are loyal to Kaname and agree to go along with the program.
As part of her duty to watch after the "Day Class," the humans, Yuki has developed deep feelings for Kaname, who, oddly enough, seems to reciprocate those feelings, which does not sit well with Zero, Yuki's closest friend. Yuki and Zero share a tragic past where their families were destroyed by vampires. Unfortunately, as a vampire attacked his family, Zero was bit in the process and is slowly transforming into a vampire. However, unlike Kaname Kuran, who is a pure blood vampire, his transformation is more dangerous than death itself. The only person who can save Zero is Yuki, but, as the story unfolds, Zero, Kaname, and Yuki form the most amazing love triangle jam packed with surprises, drama, and an epic climax!
