Is this a good idea? Teachers typically do not use video games in the classroom, but why not? When the students go home, the first thing they are going to do is start playing video games.Computer Games in the Classroom
Who should view video games? It is important to understand the video gaming rating system. Without this system, it is difficult to determine if the game is non-violent enough for teachers to use in the classroom. You may want to consult the ESRB website, which is Entertainment Software Rating Board.
The ESRB tells the customer if particular software is appropriate for you to purchase. Many people however do not care about how violent a game is, but it is something you will want to understand before using video games in the classroom. One particular game I like is called LittleBigPlanet. It allows players to use pulleys, levels, and springs. The player is not only playing a video game, but he or she is doing some type of science.
Play stations or any other video gaming consoles can be used inside and outside of the classroom. Physical Education teachers may love the fact that some games have the kids getting active. The bottom-line is that some video games may have a purpose in the classroom while others will not. It is up to the teacher to decide.
