What is a digital camera?
Digital camera is the camera that stores images digitally rather than recording them on film. Once a picture has been taken, it can be downloaded to a computer system; manipulated with a graphics program and then printed. Digital photos are limited by the amount of memory in the camera.
Uses:
Digital cameras are easy to use and they offer unlimited opportunities to engage students and to incorporate technology into their curriculum. Using digital cameras will enhance education in the classroom will help students see the visual side of education. I believe that digital cameras help students to become more involved with class topics and projects. With any classroom project, topic or subject, the use of a digital camera becomes an engaging process as students reason and plan on how to present their pictures. Children on all levels of education are positively affected by using Digital Cameras inside and outside the classroom. Students can produce videos of their presentations or projects with digital cameras. Also teachers can use Digital Cameras to create lesson plans, presentations and create assignments for students. Using a digital camera in a classroom has many significant advantages for example activities and projects completed with digital images compliment all curriculum areas and also most learning styles, especially visual and kinesthetic.
Advantages:
>Digital photography eliminates the need for film processing since there is no processing involved, it does not need dangerous chemicals that could end up in our water supplies.
>Digital photographs are extremely adaptable because you can email them to friends and family, put them on a web site, burn them to CD or DVD, store them on your computer, and use them for slide shows which can be viewed on your TV or computer monitor.
>They can of course be printed.
>They can be used to put together personalized calendars, greeting cards, printed on objects like coffee mugs, key-fobs and shirts.
>Digital Cameras are the ideal way to take advantage of all the features of digital photography, but you can also use a conventional film camera and convert your negatives to the digital domain. For instance, many photo processing outlet's offer the facility of transferring film negatives to CD. If you are not sure about taking the plunge into digital photography, converting film negatives is one way to discover the wonders of digital photography without having to invest in a new digital camera.
>Digital Cameras offer so much more than conventional film cameras. Most models have a viewing screen which functions as a view finder as well as a picture viewer. This gives you the ability to view pictures that you have taken just moments before. If you then find that the picture is not to your liking you can just delete it and take another. If part of the photograph is good, crop it and save it back to the camera memory. Many Digital Cameras also have a facility whereby you can capture short bursts of video complete with audio soundtrack
>Digital photography is affordable and the technology makes fabulous photos well within the budget of most consumers.
>Pictures can be viewed virtually without delay on the display screen of the camera.
>Digital camera makes it simple for one to edit image with the help of editing software. It allows one to alter digital images in any way that you can think of. They can be cropped, the colors can be changed or enhanced, the contrast can be adjusted, imperfections can be removed, and images can be combined to produce awesome new designs. All of this can be accomplished in a few seconds with just a few key strokes or mouse clicks.
Disadvantages:
>Digital cameras are generally more expensive cameras.
>Larger up-front investment.
>More sensitive to shocks and dropping.
>Uses a lot of battery.
>As the technology improves there are more and more expensive cameras on the market. The more mega pixels your camera has, the better the picture and the more expensive it will be.
My opinion on Digital camera: I believe that the Digital Camera should be used in the classroom as often as possible because photography activity is not about taking pictures, but using the camera as a tool to help students explore and understand other subjects. The activity does not have to be fancy, expensive, pretty or even perfect. Digital camera will help students to capture their attention and interest for example pictures that include special people or places, happy or even unhappy moments and or around the school whatever that interests them.
Digital camera is one of the most creative media that students and teachers can use in the classroom. It is very easy to use because you see your picture instantly and you have the option to save the picture or erase it.
Audience for Digital Camera:
Digital camera is for everyone for example teachers, students, someone with a special event to commemorate, such as a wedding, the birth of a new child or the holiday of a lifetime or personal interest.
