YouTube is a video-sharing website that is designed to allow users to view, upload, and share videos about anything. You could post videos on how to make macaroni and cheese, videos of you or a friend playing the guitar, and even videos about exercise. You can post videos about virtually anything.
How can it be used?
YouTube can be used at home to aid in cooking, in the workplace to aid in repairing something, and in the classroom to aid in learning. YouTube is easy to use and it is free! You can have access to YouTube anywhere that you have access to the internet. It is an easy site to find online and even easier to use. You simply type what you are looking for in the search bar, click the search button, and hundreds of results appear in less than half a second! It is so easy, my entire family uses it!
What are the advantages and disadvantages of this tool?
One advantage of using YouTube in the classroom is that it is so easy to find exactly what you are looking for. Typing it into the search box is so simple. YouTube also has many useful classroon videos, like clips from National Geographic, Scholastic, and hundreds of other educational brands or labels. Another advantage of using YouTube in the classroom is the fact that when children want to refer back to a video watched in class, it is easy for them to locate. All the need to know is the title and they can find it and watch it as many times as needed.
One disadvantage about using YouTube is that sometimes there are innappropriate images incorporated into videos or used as advertisements on the screen. Inappropriate material makes it slightly difficult to find videos that can be used in a classroom, especially when you are searching for information about a slightly controversial topic. Another disadvantage is the fact that many schools block YouTube from their systems because of inappropriate use in the classroom. Quite often, students get online to watch music videos or play games using the YouTube site during important class time, which can take away from their learning experience.

YouTube is a program that can be used by people of any age. There are videos for kids and for adults all available online right at your fingertips. This website can be used my children, teachers, business employers, even the President of the United States!

I believe that this website can be very useful in the classroom, if used the right way. Many teachers say that they cannot use programs like YouTube because they do not know how or they do not know the rules of its use. Well it is easy to learn, and knowing the rules is as simple as asking a question. I think that teachers and students could benefit from the use of YouTube in the classroom, especially because this is such a technology dependent era.
