This is an example of an ELMO camera presenter. I have used this in one of my field placements. (One a lot like this.) It is basically a camera mounted on an arm that sends the image to a projector. It has functions to save images to an SD or other removable media, and can be linked to a laptop so no new connection ports are needed to the projector. It has a zoom feature and a light to make it easier to view the material being projected.
Why use this product?
*One can project pages out of a book, which no other presenter can do without having a digital copy.
*One can use one's own notes or samples of student work
*Doesn't require clean-up like transparency sheets do.
*Transparency sheets are expensive. With this, one can use normal paper.
*One can also project small objects, like science experiments, manipulatives, &c.
Disadvantages:
*Takes up a fair amount of desk space to use
*Fairly expensive
*A bit of a learning curve for teachers not used to using technology
