My tool is brainpop.com. Brain Pop is an interactive educational site designed to help both students and educators in science, social studies, English, math, arts & music, health, and technology. Brain Pop uses short cartoon videos that feature a guy named Tim and his robot friend Moby to explain key concepts in each subject. It’s a fun and easy way to introduce new material to a class. The explanations are clear enough that it can be used by students in individual study at home.
There are some advantages to Brain Pop. It contains a list of activities that educators can use to bring home their point in the classroom. It can follow your state standards, provide curriculum calendars, and it has several options in its professional development link. The fact that Brain Pop covers such a wide range of subjects is a plus.
The disadvantage to using Brain Pop is that you have to subscribe to it. However, I was at a middle school last semester that believed it was worth the cost.
Brain Pop can be used by grades K-12.It also has Brain Pop ESL for students who are till struggling with learning English.
To learn more about Brain POP, you can visit their website at www.brainpop.com. You can also go directly to the standards page to learn more about linking to your state standards.
I think that Brain Pop is an excellent learning resource for students of all ages in all subjects. I have seen it used in the middle school classroom, and the students really seemed to enjoy and learn from it.
