Total Reader can be used for measuring and improving a student's reading level. Total Reader is designed to match student reading ability with text readability, utilizing the same objective scale, and provide long-term progress tracking for the student, school, and district.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of this tool?
The advantages are Total Reader can help with instruction plans, identify struggling readers, track the effectiveness of the curriculum and demonstrate accountability. Teachers can also quickly assess a student's reading ability and direct the student to texts appropriate for his level to ensure that his reading skills consistently improve. The disadvantages are this tool leaves K-2 out of the program and some of the reading material used for diagnosing may be too broad.

Overall I believe this tool is very useful for students struggling with reading. It gives the teachers and students the tools to assess, plan, and track student reading progress.
