Simple Assessment
This is a great tool or upcoming teachers. This website was created by Infosource Learning and has been involved with technology for over 25 years. This program is designed to meet the standards of the No Child Left Behind Act. This act states that all students should be computer literate by 8th grade. The teachers turned to Infosource Learning to help. Simple Assessment contains many resources for teachers. These include getting teachers up to date on their computer skills, integrating those skills into the classroom, and protecting the students while they are using technology. They created this resource called Simple Assessment to simply assess student's technology skills in the most cost effective way possible.
The Assessment
The program is downloaded to the computers the students will be using and only takes one class period to complete. There is a pre-assessment and a post-assessment that the student takes. This helps the teacher monitor their student's progress throughout the course. This program was made to free up the teacher and allow the student's to work at their own pace.
Advantages
The main advantage of this tool would be the lack of preparation by the teacher. The teacher doesn't have to make up a test or checklist for the student's, the program has to uploaded to the computer and that's all the teacher must do. The record is kept in a log on the computer and is accessible at any time. This really frees up the teachers and gives them the opportunity to teach and work with other students while some are testing.
Disadvantages
One disadvantage would be that the teacher is not able to monitor the student as well and also they the teacher won't be able to make the assessment out themselves. This is something that some teachers like to do themselves instead of having it made for them.
Audience and Opinion
This resource is made to assist teachers in assessing their students technological knowledge. In my opinion this tool would be great for teachers who are incorporating technology into their curriculum. This would allow the teacher to be able to keep teaching or helping other students while one is taking an online assessment. This frees up the teacher and provides students a private way to be assessed on their abilities.
