Overhead Projectors
What is the tool?
My classroom tool is overhead projectors. It is an older tool in the classroom that is still used some today. It allows sheets to be projected from a transparency to a screen on the wall.
How can it be used?
It can be used for almost any subject in the classroom. The teacher can run off worksheets for students in the form of a transparency or use a blank one to write anything necessary for the class to see. Using an overhead projector can be used as a way for students to take notes, complete morning work, or look at pictures as a class. It is a way for every student to see the same thing and the teacher has control over it.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of this tool?
Some advantages of overhead projectors are that the teacher controls what the students are looking at as a class. It also allows for the teacher to face the whole class while they are learning. Overhead projectors provide a great form of visual learning for that multiple intelligence. It also can be a good part of classroom management because most kids want to get involved to use the technology incorporated into the class.
Some disadvantages might be that technology has changed so much since overhead projectors. They seem to be coming outdated since the invention or smart boards, power points, access to internet, etc. Overhead projectors might also have a disadvantage because of the amount of space they require in a classroom. Most teachers keep theirs on rolling carts to move them out of the way necessary.
Who is the audience for this tool?
The audience for the tool would be the students; it can range from any grade level. The younger students seem to respond more to the overhead because they get excited over the opportunity to write on the screen. Using the overhead projector in the classroom is a good way to get the students attention and get them participating more in lessons.

What is your opinion on the usefulness of this tool?
My opinion of the usefulness of the overhead projector is that it is a great tool to share in the classroom. I think that it was more popular in the ninety’s and not enough teachers use them anymore because there are so many other ways to include newer technology in the classroom. I think that overhead projectors are very easy to use and are something that should not be taken out of the classrooms.
