What is VoiceThread?

The tool I decided to research and something that would be useful in the classroom is VoiceThread. VoiceThread is a collaborative, multi-media show that holds imags, documents, and videos, which allows people to navigate pages and hold conversations on one single page. VoiceThread also allows its users to to leave comments in 5 different ways:

• Voice using a microphone or telephone


• Text


• Audio


• Webcam


• Uploading a file

Who Is The Audience For This Tool?

This tool can be used by educator's k-12, universities, and businesses; so the audience varies for this tool. When used by educator's k-12 the audience is the students, adminstrators, and also other teacher. If used by universities, the audience would be the students, deans/professors,and/or other adminstators.When used by businesses the audience will be very diverse also. However these VoiceThreads can be viewed by other people browsing the internet and they may also leave comments.

What Can This Tool Be Used For???

VoiceThread can be used for discussions, classroom presentations, share videos and pictures with friends and families, documents, and also hold conferences when needed to. It can also be used as a story board and blog.

ADvantages and DIsadvantages?

Some advantages of VoiceThread is, its easy to naviagate through, has several ways to post comments, can hold and view all types of documents, pictures, and videos, and also because it is a world wide tool is usable by many people in many different locations. Also while posting your comments on VoiceThread it allows you to "doodle". For example, maybe someone is explaining a math problem or quote, they can do so by circling or highlighted important facts or notes while talking. As far as disadvantages of VoiceThread, there are really not that many. One disadvantage of this tool is the fact that it allows anyone to comment on a VoiceThread. I think this is a big disadvantage, because it can casue disruptions in discussions and conferences and also allows unnecessary feedback also.

IS IT USEFUL?

Overall, I think this a very useful tool and will be something I would incorporate into in my class if possible. It is useful because it is something teachers really could include into their instructions on a daily basis if needed to. Also because it allows students and other to comment in more than one way. The page setup of VoiceThread is easy to browse through and look at others comments, which is good becausee it cuts down on confusion when used by younger students.
