There are many advantages of using an interactive smart board in a classroom if it is used the right way. Interactive Smart Boards make the material more enjoyable for students. They get students more excited about learning because they look at it as more of game than actually learning something. In reality they are soaking up a lot of educational material and just do not realize it. Smart Boards have been known to boost test scores and performance. They are a great way to gain the attention of students who seem to not want to learn. Smart Boards allow students to learn in a fun new way that is much more interesting than sitting in rows of desk having a teacher read out of a textbook.
There are disadvantages to using interactive smart boards in a classroom as well. Some may argue that Smart Boards take up valuable class time that could be spent learning new material rather than playing a game. In some cases that may be true; however, it is all in how the teacher goes about using the board. It does not always have to be about games and should not take up valuable class time because if used properly, the teacher should already have the lesson prepared on the smart board before using it in class. Another disadvantage with the Smart Board is that if it is used too frequently, students will become accustomed to it and think it is boring. Teachers need to make sure they prevent this by finding new ways in order to make the Smart Board and material being taught fun and exciting.
In my opinion, Interactive Smart Boards are very useful in classrooms. They get students engaged and excited about learning, which is what it should be about. I think Smart Boards are a great way to let the students enjoy themselves while creating a learning environment for them at the same time. Smart Boards are a great tool that can be used to enhance any lesson regardless of the subject.
