What is the tool? I decided to write about a tool that I am still learning to use. Photostory is a technology that permits educators/users to construct educational slideshows with authorial narration or in other words, the architect of the site creates the text and narrates to the designated audience.
How Can it be Used? This tool can be used to construct innovative lessons that students and groups can access in addition to classroom instruction. This tool allows the author to select specific pictures and add them to a slideshow that progresses with the narration.
What are some of the Advantages? The advantages of this tool is that it allows for an out of classroom technology that students can acces from their home. The author of the site can set up review sessions for students to prepare for upcoming tests or to just gain more information on a specific subject. This technology can additionally be used to reinforce classroom assignments. It is relatively easy to use and does not take much additional time to develop an instructional presentation.
What are some of the Disadvantages? The disadvantages may be that the technology is only as good as the user. In other words, the author of a site can use the technology ineffectively or construct a weak presentation, much like some teachers do in the classroom. Another possible disadvantage is student access out side of school. Many students may not have access to a home computer and naturally limits the use of this tool. Additionally, photostory is very limited as to what types of photos or additional media can be added to a presentation. Other than that, I think it is an overall excellent tool that can be a great supplement to classroom instruction.
What Audience can this Technology be used for? The audience for this tool can be just about anyone. That is one of the advantages of this site. It is only limited by the author. A photostory presentation can be developed to meet any age group or subject effectively dependent on the architect of the site. My purpose will be to use this tool for a high school audience and will be constructed in order to to provide further instruction building on classroom assignments, will be used as a source for students to review lessons and materials, and for test preparation.
