ReadWriteThink.org
ReadWriteThink.org is a partnership between the National Council of Teachers of English, the International Reading Association and Verizon Thinkfinity. This organization has a website that provides educators and parents with language arts resources. For teachers there are hundreds of lesson plans, printouts and professional development resources. For parents there are many activities, printables, games and tips for keeping their child reading.
One of the biggest advantages of this web resource is that it is all free. Another advantage of this site is that it is extremely easy to use. Everything is very well organized. All of the resources are sorted by type, grade level, learning objective and themes. There are printables and booklists, as well as interactive computer programs for students to use that fit in with each lesson plan. I only noticed one disadvantage. Each lesson plan has a tab where you can check to see how the lesson plan aligns with your particular state standards. When I checked on the standards for Georgia, they did not seem to be the same standards that are in place at the present time. That leads me to believe that the website may not update the state standards quite as often as they ought to.
ReadWriteThink.org is sponsored through grants from Thinkfinity through the Verizon Foundation. Two other Thinkfinity partners are Illuminations a website of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and Science NetLinks from the American Association for the Advancement of Science. These websites are great resources for hundreds of math and science lesson plans. Again all for free!
I think that ReadWriteThink is an excellent web resource. It is well organized and is easy to use for teachers and parents as well.
