Integrate InspireData Into Your Curriculum!

InspireData is a computer software program that was created by Inspiration Software, Inc. Most people are familiar with the Inspiration and Kidspiration programs that were developed by this same company. InspireData creates visualized data plots that could be used for science, mathematics and social studies projects. This product can be used across the curriculum to help students of all grade levels develop their ability to analyze data.

 

The InspireData software has an easy to use interface and comes with over 50 data sets on a wide variety of topics and subjects. Some of the examples of the data sets that are included are: US Immigration, World Population, Plant growth, NBA Statistics, and Hurricanes. Both teachers and students will enjoy the features this software has to offer.

When using the software the students can select from the pre-made data sets or they have the option of entering their own data directly into the application. If the students have already combined information into and a spreadsheet document they can import that information into the program as well. Once students have collected or imported all of their data they can switch over to plot view and determine which type of plot can help them to visualize their data. Students can use the following types of plots to better help them understand their data: Venn, Stack, Pie, Axis and Time series. Teachers can use this program to create a questionnaire, which allows students to fill in data like you would find on the web.

I feel that this software program will eventually be the norm in classroom use by both teachers and students. The software has easy to use features and functions with its pre-made tables and plots or if you want to create your own. I think students will enjoy seeing the results of their collected imported data when they are using this program.
