Thinkfinity

What is the tool and how can it be used?
The tool I have chosen is Thinkfinity. It was created by the Verizon Foundation. It is a website that supplies, lesson plas, games, and activities, that can be used by parents, teachers, and students. Children can use the games and activities if they are struggling, or if they just want to review some material. Parents can use the site to review some of the topics that their children are learning about, so that they are able to help them with homework and projects. Teacherscan find new lesson plans that they may not have thought of, but they will help the teacher add dimension to their lessons, so that each child's needs are met.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of this tool?
ADVANTAGES

The students and parents can use this at home
There is something for parents, teachers, and students
It is a lot of stuff, but once you figure out how to use it is very helpful

DISADVANTAGES

The site is pretty confusing to navigate, but if you watch the tutorial it helps you understand what the site contains.

I think this tool is really useful once a person learns how to use and navigate the site. A teacher would not want to suggest this tool to a parent or student without first finding out how to explain it.

What is the tool and how can it be used?

Google for Educators was launched by Google to help support and facilitate the teaching community. This site offers ideas for classroom activities divided up by grades and offers examples of how teachers are using these activities within their classroom. The site also offers tips on improving search results with handy posters in order to access easily. There is also a discussion group for educators to enhance the “community” ambiance that Google is trying to attain. This site is designed to provide additional supplemental resources for all educators.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of this tool?

This tool has the potential to be highly effective. The design and purpose is very user friendly. However, there is limited content to choose from which makes it somewhat less than desirable. An increase in content and material will make this tool a force to be reckoned with!

Who is the audience for this tool?

This tool is intended for all educators of all grade level as well as future educators. This site can also be accessed by educational faculty and staff.

What is your opinion on the usefulness of this tool?

I don’t feel that this tool is very useful at this point and time. This tool is still in its preliminary stages and does not have very much material to offer. However, as the information increases so will the usefulness of this tool.

FUN BRAIN!

What is the tool?

This website is great for extra help at home that parents can do with their children to practice math and reading. There are games on here that students would love to play. I am 21 and I had a blast playing the games and even played it twice!

How can it be used?

This tool can be used to allow students extra practice with grammar, reading, or mathematics. It can also be used as a fun tool but the good part with that is, it will also be educational. There are many different links to go to for games and extra practice. This can be used for children who have not yet went into school to become familiar with letters and words.

What are advantages and disadvantages?

The only disadvantages I saw was that when you go to play a new game it does not give you instructions on how to play. Also, it does not give an age range of who the game is for. Advantages that I observed were that it was good for different ages. Even though the tool doesn’t tell you exactly what age each game is for, you know that things like geometry would not be for kindergarten. Also, another advantage is that these games are entertaining and they don’t lose your attention.

Who is the audience?

The audience is younger students. I would say most of the time it would only be for primary grades. Some of the things on this tool, such as the geometry, would be more geared for upper elementary school students. Parents could help the students with these games and strategies on this tool, but overall the audience is for younger students only.

What is your opinion about this tool?

I think this tool is more for fun than for learning strategies. It would be useful if a student needed to brush up a strategy or just need a little extra practice. I like these games. They were fun and they covered a wide variety of topics.

What is the tool?

This is an excellent website that provides students with the chance to learn and become more familiar with a plethora of subjects. These subjects include: math, social studies, science, and language arts. There are links at the top of the main page that carry you to the various subjects and games found within the website. The games are both fun and interactive and are also educational in nature, so both parents and teachers should find them appropriate.

How can it be used?

Students can access this tool to play games and review subjects that they may need additional practice with. This website is full of interactive games that could be used during free time. The website allows students to explore and try out different activities that could be beneficial in review or just for fun.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of this tool?

This tool is very user friendly and is loaded with unique and creative activities for students.

This tool has several games that are aligned with the different subjects being taught to students, but some of the games require downloads to access them, so that could be troublesome and frustrating for some students.

Who is the audience for this tool?

The tool is definitely intended for elementary students. This tool could also be used by teachers and parents to engage students and help them review or take part in an interactive educational setting.

I think this tool could be useful because it provides students with the opportunity to explore and play educational games. This tool is mostly for fun, but could help students gain valuable practice with a certain topic while playing the game, so kill two birds with one stone!

America's Library

What is It?

This is a website designed by the United States' Library of Congress. The website was created to help students connect to America's past by allowing them to interact with history. The website is intended to make history fun while students are learning.

Who is the Target Audience?

The website does specifically state who it's intended audience is. However, I would say that the intended audience is students between the grades of 3rd and 9th. In addition to students, parents and teachers can also be the audience.

How Can the Website be Useful?

The website can easily be used a supplement tool for teaching United States history. Teachers teaching any U.S history lessons can easily use the website because it provides extensive information related to United States history. In addition, parents can also use the website to ensure that their child is learning world history.

What are the Advantages and Disadvantages?

The website is very colorful and immediately captures the visitor's attention. The website provides a large amount of primary sources that comes from letters, diaries, records and tapes, films, sheet music, maps, prints, photographs, and digital materials. The site allows students to become active participants in the learning process because the site allows students to engage in scavenger hunts, answer questions, listen to music, and read interactive time-lines. The site is exceptional for younger students, however I feel that students in higher grades above 9th might find the website to be "kiddie."

What is My Opinion?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this website. The site is very useful because it provides a plethora of primary sources that can be easily incorporated into any American history lesson. Also the website gives covers all aspects of American history and does not exclude any American group. The website is not bias. In addition, the website tells history stories rather than just state facts and attempt to be student friendly. I would definitely use this website in my classroom.

What is it?
This site is sponsored by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, which is the company that supplies the textbooks that are being used in classrooms. The title of this site is Education Place. It is a tool for parents, teachers and students. It can be used for lesson ideas, assistance with work, homework help, as well as extra activities.

Audience:
Educators: This site is supplies a tab for Educators, Students and Families. The Educators section has textbook support materials for each educational area, including: Reading/Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Spelling, Pre-K, Assessment System, Intervention Products, and Professional Development.

When you choose an area, it asks you to pick the book that you use. It then ask you for grade level, in very easy to understand windows. Once you have picked the level a window appears with activity ideas, correlations, bulletin board ideas, etc. For example, if you choose spelling, it has word find tabs, letter and word cards and word puzzles. Social Studies has graphic organizers, state maps and weekly reading.

Students: The students’ site offers so much, from brain teasers to study help. Students can go on just to play games or to get extra help on the section of their text book that they are currently working on in school. in the same way the educators section works, students can pick their textbook and their grade level to reach the desired area they need. In addition to the selected areas of education, this area also has a Wacky Web Tales tab, Current Events, Brain Teasers and Games.

Parents: Again, the parents section is set up like the others, you pick a book and a grade level. When you get to your desired area, it offers activities and extra help. I think one of the most beneficial parts of the parents’ site it the Math Demonstration tab. As a parent and student teacher, I can attest to the fact that I have not done some of this stuff in over 20 years, so it’s nice to be able to look back at the different ways to complete a certain problems. Many of the ways our students are shown how to complete problems are not the same ways that some of us older people were taught.

What is an Advantage to using this site?
The big advantage to this site is that it aligns with the Georgia Performance Standards, there is actually a tab right on the site to take you to the standard.

What is a disadvantage to this site?
A disadvantage to this site is that even though the material is based on the book our students are using in their classrooms, it does not provide actual material from the book. I understand why it doesn’t, people wouldn’t buy the book them, but it would be helpful to parents and students if they could view a small part of each section.

Is this site useful?
I find this site very useful, I actually discovered this site while helping my son with some homework he had; the activities helped him understand something he had been having trouble with. As an educator, it is another site that can provide you with new ideas and/or materials.

Jesus. Has anyone told this girl, “Before you answer a question, just stop and think about the words you are about to say. Just think about what it sounds like.” Because this sounds like Megan wants to teach little girls how to act sexy. No, thanks, Megan. You’re not Miley Cyrus! Besides that, I think the reason Megan thinks “sexiness” is power is because that’s all she’s got. Just FYI, to all young girls out there - intelligence, education, self-respect, grace, humor, talent, compassion and humility are also pretty powerful weapons in the arsenal of modern womanhood too.

In this interview, Megan loses the graciousness she had at the Scream Awards, and instead snots out this gem: “This is a bull—- industry and I made a decision not to be a bull—- person. I need to hold onto my soul and my integrity and I can’t compromise that.” Right. Because whenever I hear the word “integrity”, Megan’s face always floats up.

Earlier this year, her comments to a magazine journalist that Michael Bay, who directed her in the two Transformers movies, is “like Hitler” on his sets prompted an angry response from three crew members who called her “dumb as a rock”, before going on to dismiss her as “thankless, classless, graceless [and] unfriendly”.

Fox shrugs off the criticism, when I meet her in Toronto – where her new movie, the demonic-possession horror-comedy Jennifer’s Body is getting its world premiere. “I’ve definitely said some things that I shouldn’t say,” she admits. “I sometimes forget how things will translate once they are in print. But this is a bull—- industry and I made a decision not to be a bull—- person. I need to hold onto my soul and my integrity and I can’t compromise that.”

“It was a difficult movie to make because I was under a lot of pressure to do Diablo’s script justice,” says Fox, “so I was nervous about that. I was always questioning myself and trying to bring some real elements to Jennifer. I wanted people to feel empathy for her; I wanted her to be a real person, and not a caricature, like some of the characters I may have played in the past.”

Asked what she makes of the “Sexiest Woman in the World” label, Fox laughs. “I don’t take any notice of those polls. I take it with a grain of salt. I think that because I was in a movie [Transformers] that made $800 million, they threw me on the top of the list.” But what about her remark to Esquire that “I’m just really confident sexually and I think that sort of oozes out of my pores?”

She sighs. “Sometimes I say things that I think are obviously sarcastic and people take them quite literally. In America we’re still very uptight about sexuality: it’s considered scandalous for women to be sexual or speak about sex in a humorous way,” she says.

“For some reason it makes people very uncomfortable, possibly because our society is still very tied to archaic biblical principles that we try to force on each other and force on our children. It’s very unfortunate because men are embraced for their sexual prowess and women discouraged from it.”

“In Europe, women are celebrated for their sexuality and appreciated for it. There you can still be both sexy and intelligent. Go figure.”

While another actress might bemoan the fact that being named the sexiest woman alive would hinder her goal of becoming “A Serious Actress”, Fox says: “I didn’t decide I’m going to be an actress because I want to be respected for how I play chess. I don’t think men approach me for intellectual conversation. I’m definitely labelled in the pin-up category and I haven’t given people a reason to take my work seriously yet.”

In the past, Fox has been outspoken about being bisexual and having had an affair with a stripper while in her teens. But, for the past five years, she has been in a monogamous relationship with actor Brian Austin Green, who is 13 years her senior.
When discussing Green, Fox suddenly, unexpectedly, begins to cry; then she dabs her eyes with a tissue, smiles and apologises. “Man, I just get emotional,” she says. You don’t come across a lot of genuine people in this industry and I feel blessed to have someone who will stick around through my bull—-”

“I just really want it at some point to be OK for women and young girls to be sexy because I think that’s a power, a gift that we were given by God or the universe or whatever,” she says. “I think I’m a different kind of role model for young girls.” She thinks for a minute and adds with a smile: “But maybe not the kind America is comfortable with.”
